If you haven’t heard Yolanda Be Cool’s newest single ‘Soul Makossa’… Well, you must have been living under a rock for the past few months because it has been literally… EVERYWHERE. This latest single made it to #2 on all of the Beatport charts, and their video has reached over a half million views on YouTube, so if you don’t know, now you know. Get into it. Culture Vulture has been a long time fan of these two legends and lucky for us, we got a chance to catch up with them on their latest tour for a little Q&A. Check it out:
CV: How did you guys meet? Was it love at first sight?
YBC: WE BOTH USED TO SURF AT THE SAME LOCAL BEACH, TAMARAMA BUT NEVER REALLY SPOKE. THEN MATT WAS THE DJ AT A LOCAL BAR AND ANDY WAS THE BARTENDER SO LOVE FLOWED OVER ALCOHOL AND TUNES.
CV: We know you get this all the time, but how did you get the name Yolanda Be Cool?
YBC: WELL…..WE ARE GUESSING YOU HAVE SEEN THE MOVIE PULP FICTION? THINK ABOUT THE DINER SCENE AT THE END…(wink)

CV: Tell us a little bit about the Soul Makossa Tour.
YBC: IT’S BEEN SOOOO FUN. STARTED IN COLUMBIA AT A FESTIVAL FOR 40,000 PEEPS AND SOME SOLID AFTER-PARTYING FOLLOWED BY SPLAS HOUSE IN PALMS SPINGS WITH HEAPS OF COOL CREW. THEN WE HAVE SINCE DONE OUTPUT IN NYC, SANTA BARBARA, BANG BANG IN SAN DIEGO, SOUND IN LA AND A WIKKID SWEAT IT OUT LABEL TAKEOVER AT HOTEL FIGEROA IN DOWNTOWN LA. NOW GEARING UP FOR TEMPLE IN SF ON FRIDAY AND THEN BRING ON ZEE BURN!!!
CV: What are your Burning Man outfit inspirations?
YBC: THE WEIRDER THE BETTER. BUT ALSO, VERY LIGHT FOR THE DAY, AND WARM AT NIGHT. NOTHING WORSE THAN FREEZING AND BOILING IN 12 HOURS.
CV: What do we have to look forward to right now from you guys?
YBC: WE HAVE A SINGLE COMING OUT ON DIM MAK CALLED THE ROOSEVELT AND A COUPLE MORE SINGLES WITH DCUP, A REMIX FOR SHARAM JEY AND A FEW OTHER MORE UNDERGROUND TUNES UNDER A LIL’ ALIAS.
